The Recycled Material Standard

Kevin Lifsey

Presented Laura Thompson, GreenBlue

The Recycled Material Standard (RMS) has been designed to help advance the use of recycled material.  By adopting multiple chain of custody models under a single standard, the RMS couples supply chain flexibility with robust assurances that brands expect.  Most manufacturers are familiar with “controlled blending” systems that support traditional x% content claims.  The RMS allows for mass balance claims and is introducing a new environmental commodity known as Attributes of Recycled Content (ARCs).  This presentation will illustrate how all three types of claims can be applied by converters that want to help their customers achieve ambitious recycled material goals for plastics.
