Self-Priming Oxygen Barrier Coating for Mono-Material Packaging

In this presentation, we will discuss using a water-based coating to introduce oxygen barrier properties in flexible packaging structures. To reach sustainability goals, flexible packaging companies look to replace non-recyclable multi-layer packaging designs and components. Recyclable mono-materials such as BOPE or BOPP films do not have the required oxygen barrier to replace multi-layer equivalents. We will present a study for using a self-priming, water-based oxygen barrier coating on various films in conjunction with adhesive lamination to produce packaging; some combinations capable of recycling.
