Roll-to-Roll Vacuum Deposition of OLEDs for Lighting Application

A novel approach has been started to transfer highly efficient small molecule OLED technology into roll-to-roll processing on flexible metal and polymer webs for OLED lighting. The processing line consists of a roll-to-roll vacuum coater for organic materials evaporation, a roll-to-roll printing and lamination unit operated under protective atmosphere and an optical inspection system for defect analysis. The system recently demonstrated the first full R2R-fabrication of white small-molecule OLEDs, which were subsequently encapsulated with barrier foil.
