Processes and Equipment for Specialty Web Products

This paper will present and discuss specialty applications of vacuum web coating: which are gaining a growing interest from the industry, as a new opportunity of business through diversification. We will describe processes with combined techniques, in particular, patterning and coating with their promise of new products in the flexible packaging industry and of more efficient solutions in the growing demand of security features for anti-counterfeiting. From the consideration of the different requirements of these two sectors – wide web for high output in packaging, multiple processes on narrow webs for security - two solutions will be illustrated : a multifunctional web metallizer which features special evaporation and patterning modules, integrated in a conventional roll coater structure and a multiple process metallizer dedicated to narrow webs.
