Empowering Efficient Battery Electrode Drying

Kevin Lifsey

Presented by Dr. Kai K. O. Bär, adphos Digital Printing GmbH

Traditional methods of drying Li-ion-electrode slurries for battery production can consume up to 50% of the energy required for manufacturing. The battery electrode advanced rapid light initiated thermal emission technology, a photonic based electro-thermal drying solution, enables effective electrode slurry drying (no cracks, no binder migration, proper cell properties) in less than 5 to 10 seconds - even at wet thickness ≥ 300 µm. Real world application examples demonstrate up to 90% energy savings with the elimination of onsite CO2 emissions.
