Creating Digital Models of a Converting Machine

Kevin Lifsey

Presented by Tom Finkbeiner, Siemens

Siemens has a table top winding demo using a 100' measuring tap as the web. This consists of (2) winding / unwinding axes, a dancer with spring force for web tension, and a line speed encoder. We are planning to make mechanical and electrical models of this demo that can be shown at trade shows along with the demo. These are models that would be used for simulation, testing, commissioning, and life cycle management for real production machines. This presentation would cover the steps taken to make these models to show how this can be done for a converting machine. The presentation would cover the demo stand, the tools used to create the models, short videos of the completed models, lessons learned during the process and best practices to follow when performing these tasks. We are planning have this done in time to show the models and demo stand at the Converter's Expo at Lambeau Field in April, the presentation could be completed in the weeks that follow that event.
