Contribution of Plasma in Vacuum Al Metallized Polyester Film

Different methods are available for surface preparation/treatment in polymeric film in converting industry, out of which, plasma surface treatment is rapidly gaining acceptance as a commercial tool for modifying the surface properties of polymer films for different conversion processes like metallizing, printing, lamination bonding etc. This paper discusses the basic understanding on plasma treatment and benefits offered by plasma on the basis of theory and in practice. The analysis shows that there is a significant improvement in metal adhesion and barrier properties for 12micron vacuum Al metallized polyester film with plasma application.
