A New "Smart" Web Coater for Flexible Display and Electronic Products

A new generation of web coaters for sophisticated flexible applications, e.g. display and electronic, will be presented. The system is specially designed to the needs of upcoming markets like flexible display devices and electronic components. The emerging technologies of these markets require highly versatile tools for different deposition processes, pre- and post- treatment as well as the particular winding and handling issues of novel flexible substrates. In contrast to the big existing web
coating systems the new SMARTWEBTM machine allows integration into production lines with clean room conditions as well as into laboratories. The paper presents first promising results obtained with the new prototype machine.
