A New Look at the Lateral Dynamics of Wide Webs

Abstract: Until quite recently, there have been no dynamic models that accurately predict lateral behavior for web spans with a length to width ratio (L/W) less than 2.0. This is unfortunate because such ratios are common in the manufacture and processing of webs and a good model would help in understanding problems such as a slack edge at a misaligned roller, weave regeneration and shear wrinkling.

This presentation will review the status of work in this area and will include some new research as well as plans underway for its experimental verification.
