Nonwovens are made by a series of operations, namely web formation, bonding, and finishing/converting operations. Process diagrams will be used to explain each process. There is a significant lexicon for nonwovens, and definitions and descriptions will be provided, where needed. Nonwovens have seen significant growth in the last few years and are used in a wide range of applications. We will give a general view of typical nonwoven products and some of the applications where they are used. Then we will discuss the typical materials that go into nonwovens and the methods of manufacturing them.
