Operating Converting Machinery - The Zero Touch Target. Highlighting Operator Safety, Ease of Operation, Machine Learning, & Artificial Intelligence

Kevin Lifsey

Presented by Giancarlo Caimmi, Nordmeccanica Sda

This webinar will highlight the most advanced evolutions targeting the “Zero-Touch” production approach. It began with consumer electronics but soon evolved to the production environment and the machinery industry.

This target involves a lot of activities at the OEM level and requires the contribution of partners covering several technologies, the most important of course being electronics. Developments are achieved through process know how and the use of some of the most advanced technologies such as Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and again a team of innovators contributing each one for its field of competence. It is a very complex activity that for the time being has led machinery to feature the highest levels of simplicity of use and safety for the operators.

A zero-touch production environment is closer that we may think. Processes where operator influence is very limited. Developments that will involve the standardization of job recipes and the ability to operate set up through algorithms expressly developed primarily for repeat jobs but eventually for all runs involving similar recipes.

Flexibility, simplicity of operation, and safety are focal points of the machine supplier. Investing in fully digital equipment does not offer just the benefit to install machinery with less physical buttons. Fully digital configurations offer immediate advantages in productivity and quality in full compliance with applicable safety rules.
