Concave and Expanding Surface Rollers: For Better of for Worse

Kevin Lifsey

Presented by Timothy Walker, T. J. Walker and Associates, Inc.

Better handling of thin substrates often includes anti-wrinkle rollers. Concave roller, whether created with tape wraps or a machined profile, are a simple and effective anti-wrinkle roller. Expanding surface rollers, which spread and contract an elastic covering through their rotation, are an underused, yet powerful option. This presentation will highlight the correct application of these two anti-wrinkle roller options. Understanding the mechanism of concave and expanding surface rollers and the importance of web-roller traction will determine whether installing a concave or expanding surface roller in your process will be “for better or for worse.”
